Education Outside the Classroom

Music

We are incredibly fortunate to have Dominic Blaazar as a dedicated and talented member of our staff. Dominic is the driving force behind our vibrant music program, leading our students in classroom music sessions and conducting the school choir with passion and expertise. He also provides private music tuition, offering personalised support to students. His commitment extends beyond the school day, as he regularly attends and participates in various music events, modelling a lifelong love for the arts. Dominic's enthusiasm and dedication are a true gift to our students and our school community.

Waterwise

Students in year 6 participate in the Waterwise program in terms 1 and 4. Waterwise is not part of the standard national curriculum. It is an option offered on the Devonport Peninsula for education outside the classroom, aiming to encourage and develop children’s water safety awareness. Waterwise provides an introduction to sailing, kayaking and boogie board rescues.

Our small class sizes work in our favour when it comes to Waterwise. With fewer Year 6 children than other local schools, our children get significantly more time on the water.

Class Trips

From time to time, students participate in learning experiences outside the classroom. Often, this will be with the whole school, and students work in their Whānau groups to allow parents the opportunity to be with all their children. This also provides our senior students with leadership opportunities within their Whānau groups.

Dance and Drama

We are thrilled to embrace an exciting partnership with PForm Dance Company for Term 4! Their expert instructors run dance lessons to help prepare our students for the spectacular Christmas show at the end of the year. PForm's lessons are not just about dance; they also incorporate drama, ensuring our students develop confidence, expression, and stage presence. This collaboration is an excellent opportunity for our students to enhance their performance skills and create a truly memorable show for our community.
